As a result, two years after he left the goverment, the Conservatives offer him a consituency and a porfolio, Chancellor of the Exchequer, like his father 30 years ago. Despite his earlier betrayal, Churchill returns to the bosom of the Conservative Party. He remaks, "Anyone can rat, but it takes a certain amount of ingenuity to re-rat.“

1925 He's become an orator without equal, daring to address Parliament in ways, that make more than one MP shrink in his presence. To a menber who constantly interrupts him with "Liar!", Churchill retorts, "If the Honorable Gentleman who keeps interrupting me consents to give his name rather than his profession, I am sure we'll all be glad to make his acquaintance." One day the MP lady aster spits at him, " If I were your wife, I'd poison your coffee." to witch Churchill replies, " Madam, if I were your husband, I'd drink it."

I would say to the House as I've said to those who've joined the goverment, I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat. We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many long months of struggle and of suffering. You ask, what is our policy? I will say, it is to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strenth that God can give us, to wage war against a monstrous tyranny never surpassed in the dark and lamentable catalog of human crime. That is our policy. You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word: victory. Victory at all costs.Victory in spite of all terror. Victory, however long and hard the road may be.

We shall defend our island,what ever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets. We shall fight in the hills. We shall never surrender!

還看到了blackdog總在他仕途失意時來襲，danger, alcohol,cigars and writing相伴他一生，這位語言大師拿過諾貝爾文學獎，繪畫也相當不錯。

他不完美，對數(shù)字不敏感，任財政大臣時的錯誤決策讓英國經(jīng)濟陷入危機，他自嘲為“英國史上最糟糕的財政大臣”；家里孩子不成器，婚姻不見得幸福；但這些都不妨礙他成為世紀巨人的事實，是他第一個站出來對抗希特勒，感染了英國人民，說服與聯(lián)合羅斯福和斯大林一起打贏戰(zhàn)役，可就是這么一位偉大的多才多藝的人，臨終前說自己此生一事無成。

他強撐著等到父親去世時的同月同日同時辰死去，足以見得他對父親的愛，可偏偏這位天天酗酒、仕途失敗、46歲就死于梅毒的父親卻從未善待過丘吉爾，我想丘吉爾的抑郁癥多少跟自小缺愛有關吧。

連續(xù)看了兩遍，致敬偉人！1.5小時紀錄片相對客觀的囊括了偉人的一生。頑劣的少年期，被學校、被父親認定不成器，終生未得到原生家庭的愛和認可；數(shù)次親赴戰(zhàn)爭前線作戰(zhàn)、三次墜機、還有嚴重車禍等事故，政治上幾次起起伏伏，丘吉爾還是度過了90歲生日，在中風昏迷中熬到和父親同月同日同時辰去世。90年歲月，墓葬地距離出生地僅一英里，卻影響了英國歷史、影響了世界歷史進程。二戰(zhàn)中，希特勒在歐洲所向披靡，英國沒有丘吉爾的激勵和“決不投降、不惜一切代價取勝”的堅定；沒有丘吉爾提前打造的軍事王國：英國的空軍、海軍艦隊、坦克、軍情處、雷達等全是丘吉爾建造的；沒有丘吉爾聯(lián)合美國和蘇聯(lián)共同對抗，英國絕無可能勝利。他有著杰出的能力：在英國士氣低落的時候，他的演講讓反對黨也淚流滿面，激勵了民眾奮勇反抗納粹蹂躪的信心；他的演講打動了美國政治階層；他的寫作獲得諾貝爾文學獎；他的繪畫能力也極其優(yōu)秀；他的勇氣讓自負的斯大林都感到震撼。他將自己一生的熱情、熱血、淚水都奉獻給了他極其熱愛的英國，但他在政治上卻是幾經(jīng)沉浮，尤其歷經(jīng)五年殘酷的二戰(zhàn)，終于帶領英國取得勝利，沒有丘吉爾就不會取得的勝利，接著在首相連任的選舉中丘吉爾敗北，民眾懷疑戰(zhàn)時的老首相能否在和平時代還能勝任，讓他震驚和抑郁。他最大的夢想是英國的強大和世界和平，他說：我一生去的很多成就，后來我卻發(fā)現(xiàn)我一無成就”，讓人唏噓。不管怎樣，丘吉爾在英國歷史乃至世界歷史上的地位都不可磨滅。
